Hazard Communication & Flammable Goods

Hazard Communication & Flammable Goods
Most construction workers, and even some general industry workers aren't even aware of the risks involved at their jobs. Most of us don't even know what we are working with! None of us are aware of the importance of Personal Protective Equipment and how to effectively manage and dispose off wastes. If there had to be a hazardous spill, what would you do? Would you know how to avoid exposure? Would report the spill? Or, would you just simply clean it up? Do you even know if the substances you work alongside are flammable, toxic, combustible or corrosive?

If you don't have the answer to all or any of the above questions, then it is important to learn about OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard. The Hazard Communication Standard covers nearly 650,000 hazardous substances and maintains that all employers must provide their employees with the required training to identify these substances and to use, manage, and dispose off them.

This standard was brought about to improve personnel safety at the workplace and to reduce the dire impact that hazardous substances have on the environment. So, if you do not have the proper knowledge or experience when it comes to working with hazardous substances, then don't be afraid to ask!

Flammable substances are highly dangerous and can cause severe injuries and even death in many cases. If not handled properly, these substances can affect the health as well as the environment, making it very important to undergo trainings in the handling of such substances. And this is where the Hazard Communication Standard comes into play.
